Powering Progress: A Look at Powercomm Group’s Key Projects
At Powercomm Group, we take pride in delivering cutting-edge electrical and energy solutions that empower businesses, industries, and communities. Our team has been at the forefront of innovation, executing projects that ensure efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. Here’s an overview of some of the key projects we have successfully delivered across various sectors.
Renewable Energy & Sustainability Initiatives
- BESS 2 Project: One of our largest and most significant projects, the BESS 2 initiative is a groundbreaking Battery Energy Storage System that enhances grid stability and supports the transition to renewable energy. This project plays a crucial role in energy storage, helping to balance supply and demand efficiently.
- Meenaward Windfarm and Rushfield 38kV Station – Donegal, Ireland: We designed and built Ireland's first contestably built 38kV AIS loop substation and a 20kV Independent Power Producer (IPP) electrical substation. This project facilitated the connection of wind power generation to the electrical grid. Our scope included the full Electrical Balance of Plant works, encompassing design, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of all electrical and civil works.
- Keeldrum/Cronalaght 2 Wind Farm – Donegal, Ireland: As an EPC contractor, we connected five 3.45MW turbines to the Ardnagappary 110/38kV substation via an ESB/IPP substation and a 4.6km 630mm² solid core aluminium cable connection. Our comprehensive services ensured seamless integration of the wind farm into the national grid.
- Blacklough Wind Farm – Sligo, Ireland: We executed an EPC contract to connect six 2.3MW turbines to the Glenree 110kV substation through ESB/IPP substations. This project underscores our capability in managing complex renewable energy integrations.
Transmission and Distribution
- Kilpaddoge 220/110kV Substation – Kerry, Ireland: Commissioned by EirGrid, this project involved the development of a new Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) as part of a broader initiative to enhance the transmission infrastructure in the southwest region. Our role encompassed commissioning and submitting the declaration of fitness for the switchgear and protection relays, ensuring the substation's readiness for operation.
- Ballinahulla 220/110kV Substation – Kerry, Ireland: Similar to the Kilpaddoge project, we were instrumental in the commissioning of this GIS substation, contributing to the reinforcement of the region's electrical infrastructure.
Data Centres
- Data Centre Project – United Kingdom: In 2017, we undertook the replacement of a 20-year-old data centre substation. The project involved transferring the data centre's supply from the network utility and on-site generation to a modern switchgear arrangement with complete redundancy. Our responsibilities encompassed the design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and energization of ten fire-separated high voltage switch rooms, ensuring no loss of supply throughout the transition.
