BESS 2

The Aghada BESS 2 Project comprised of the Design and Build of a 159MW Battery Energy Storage Solution situated at a heavily forested two tier site just south of the Aghada Power Plant. Powercomm were PSCS on this site and Principal Contractor   

This was the second BESS project completed by Powercomm on behalf of the ESB.  The project involved the following:

• Civil Design
• Site Clearance
  • Deforestation in an Environmentally Sound Manner
  • Site Leveling and substantial muck away to varying waste classifications and treatments
• Temporary Compound Construction
• Compound Construction
• Construction of a 220kV Substation complete with two 220/33kV 90MVA Transformers and cable yard
• Full cabling including Cable Design, Procurement, Installation including  Grid Cabling
• Construction and Energisation of the Grid Connection
• Construction of Battery Yard with 36 Battery Plinths
• Electrical Design both Primary and Secondary systems
• Systems Studies
• Procurement of all materials to design standard
• Installation of all materials in the 220kV substation included two 220/33kV 90MVA Transformers
• Install of all switchgear both ESBN side and IPP Side
• Install of all Control and Protection Equipment, Steelwork, Busbar and ancillary equipment such as NER, HoT, Battery Systems etc.
• Commissioning and Energisation of the 220kV substation
